Subjects: all
Review from student's older sister, Jennie Corvidae:
"My brother has been seeing Ms. Pickel for several months now to supplement his Grade 6 education while homeschooling this year. He is always so excited to Zoom with her as she brings a vibrant energy into her teaching. Ms. Pickel has covered topics such as reading, writing, math, science and social studies. She has helped my brother find new interest in Canadian politics, the solar system and multiplication! He has also been setting goals each week in both his learning and his personal life. Not only has Ms. Pickel helped my brother but she also supports his mother and I in directing his education through the pandemic. I can't imagine what this year would have been like without her and will definitely continue having her tutor my brother next year when he goes back to public school."
Review from student himself:
Ms. Pickel has a sense of humour, and she's not the type of teacher who "sensors breathing" (one of those teachers who gets mad at every little thing). She can also work around the time with the people so it works for everyone. I am a night owl and perform better in the nighttime so we tutored in the evening. She tries to compromise. For example, I don't like writing, so instead she makes different ways of writing (I dictate to her, or like the KWL chart for the Solar System). Another point is she is well spoken and does not speak to you like you are still in preschool OR like you're a biology student! Ms. Pickel doesn't talk to you like you're some kind of brain surgeon or rocket scientist. She speaks to you in a way that help kids understand. Finally, she allows movement and a little bit of goofing off, yet she swill always keep you focused on the task at hand. "
April - July 2020, February- ongoing 2021
Tutored a student from North Carolina, U.S.A. in his Grade 2 and Grade 3 years. We have explored English (grammar, reading comprehension) math, science, P.E., and music together through fun activities, individualized GimKits, and experiments.
Review from his parents (The Tans):
"Ms. Pickel who likes to eat pickles. Over the course of these few months, we have felt her presence in our house. Her initial contact with our kid was great, and she has managed to grasp our child's competency level and work out a study plan for him. With a clear goal and a properly laid out plan and syllabus, she managed to carry our kid to the next level. The achievements within these months has been huge! Our kid especially likes Ms. Pickel's methods of teachings. Brain training, practical exercises, and analytical/ logical thinking was all part of the plan, and I have to admit... the results were prominent. Our kid benefited the most from her tutoring; it was definitely valuable for our kid's skill set development in preparation for the next endeavor. We vouch for Ms. Pickel, and would definitely reccommend her to anyone that needs a great tutor!
